These may contain some of the problems when your PC are not protected with viruses infections and as a result all the files that are stored on these flash drives becomes shortcuts of files and all of them have a weird type of files extension .src files and even your disc space would be full but you will not able to access your files.  If you want these files back or want to recover them back. Then firstly you need to remove the virus from the flash drive. Then connect the drive to the PC with the latest version of updated antivirus software that can scan and detect the virus and remove them.

To recover the existing files that has converted into shortcuts:

You need to connect the flash drive to the computer, and then you need to check the drive and assign the flash drive. Then you need to go to the Start option and choose the Run and then Command prompt by typing CDM in the text field.

Then you then need to run the DOS command:

attrib -H -R -S /S /D G:\*.*

Whatever your flash drive letter, for example here is G. This command will help you to delete the shortcut files and you will get the converted and recovered files.
This step will detect the virus infected hidden files from the drives. If it Show hidden files in the folder option will not show anything which run on the CDM command. Some of the viruses hide within the registry values. Then you need to type cd\ in the command prompt.

This will open the root directory and the subfolders also. Then you need to type:

  • You need to write the letter then press Enter.
  • Then you need to type dir/ah and press Enter.
  • Then you need to write –h –s /s /d and press enter.
This will obtain you back the drive letter.
